What’s your favourite animal?  Most people answer with something cuddly like the cat, strong like the lion, or regal like the eagle.  And while  I have many “favourites,” including the stealthy panther and the powerful tiger, I am for some strange reason drawn to the amphibians and reptiles. If pressed for my

most favourite I will say alligator every time.  But I also have a fondness for frogs.  Tree frogs, green frogs, singing Bugs Bunny frogs.  I like frogs.

The chorus of tree frogs chirping after dusk has recently begun again.  The music of summer is one of my favourite sounds!  Soon, when the lights are on in the evening attracting moths and other bugs to rest on the glass dining room doors, we will begin to see tree frogs stuck to the glass, hoping for a night-time snack.  It is amusing to see their suction cup toes from the underside!

My fondness for frogs goes back to my youth.  In junior high it was common to have magnets on the inside of one’s locker door.  These magnets might have cute pictures on them, or perhaps pithy sayings.  One of my magnets, a small yellow square, had a raised green line drawing of a frog on it.  Underneath it said,

Fully rely on God

Frequently when someone was waiting for me to get something out of my locker they would read all the magnets on the door.  This one never failed to confuse them.  “Fully rely on God frog?” they’d ask.  And I would explain the acronym to them.

The frog may be a reminder that we can fully rely on God, but a better reminder is the ways He has actually been faithful in our lives.  The longer I live the more markers I have that show me that I can truly trust God in any and every circumstance.  From junior high when He made sure I was never without a pen for a class (a story I may yet tell you), to today when He is showing me that I can rely on Him in ministry.  When I don’t know what I’m doing, when I am unsure of my ability, when life is confusing and I don’t know how to get from today to tomorrow.  God is faithful.

And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:19

We know He cares.  (1 Pet 5:7)  We know His riches are unlimited.  (1 Chronicles 29:11-13, Ps 24:1-2)  What are we worried about?  Next time you see a frog or hear their happy evening song, remember that you can fully rely on God!  What markers of God’s faithfulness has He left in your life?

Keep seeking the Kingdom!
