Realign Your Sights – November 2

The target is in front of you. It is in your sights, lined up perfectly. You squeeze the trigger, knowing this is going to be a bullseye, or very close to it! The spotter tells you it hit the outer ring. Confused, you line it up again. Carefully you hold the rifle steady and gently squeeze. It misses the target sheet altogether! A few more missed shots and you know there is something wrong. It’s time to do a realignment.

As a rifle is used, the sights can get shifted, just a bit at a time, practically unnoticeable. But one day you pick it up and realize it’s so far out of alignment you’re missing the target. How much more accurate you would shoot if you realigned the sights every day!

Daily realignment may not be practical in marksmanship, but thankfully it is in life.

Every day we have an opportunity to realign our sights. Every day we can open God’s word and ask Him to realign our sights on Him. And when we do, we are so much more prepared, and more likely to hit the mark that day. When we don’t take the time to align our lives with God’s word each day we may not notice the first day that we’re out of alignment, but it will soon become clear that we are somehow missing the mark.

That’s why God instructs us in 1 Chronicles 22:19, Now set your mind and heart to seek the Lord your God. And again in Colossians 3:2, Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.

Take a few minutes each day to align your sights on God. The moments you spend with Him are the most important moments in your day. Everything in your day depends on that daily alignment.

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. Phil. 4:8-9
