For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago. Eph 2:10
I hesitate to say that I can draw because I know many of you are real artists with incredible talent. But I enjoy sketching simple things like trees and flowers. I try humans from time to time, and the results are usually pretty hilarious.
I like playing with different media – watercolour, acrylics, various types of pens – but I always come back to pencil. I love that pencil can be erased, and that I can create depth and form by shading to different degrees. But most of all I love that I can keep going, adjusting, building up layers of tone, changing my drawing until it is just the way I want it. My drawings sit unfinished for a long time, as I continually come back to make changes and improve them. But eventually I will sit back and say, that’s it. I like it. And it will be complete.
In the same way God keeps working on us. We often feel the rough edges of a new sketch in our lives. We see all our imperfections, and God does too. But He knows that we’re not finished. He keeps making adjustments, building up the layer of our lives, forming us into who He envisioned when He began.
For You formed my inward parts; You knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139:13-14
And one day He will sit back and say, that’s it. I like it. And we will be complete.
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. Phil 1:6
